“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.” – Cecil Beaton Today we met at the Girdner Gallery where the current exhibit is by one of our own f8'ers, Rene Sheret. Rene shared his story in photography starting with his very early days with a camera as a child. His formal training came from Art Center followed by a career in creative photography design until his "retirement" a few years ago. But, the reality is he really never retired but instead turned his attention to more experimental photography and design in the digital world. His work is known throughout the Pasadena environs with his iconic pictures of Pasadena landmarks and architecture. In addition Rene frequently takes to the streets to capture the daily life both here in LA and in other cities around the world. The self portrait below was shot in Barcelona. Rene also discussed some technical production issues that allow production of his final images. A set of his pictures in various formats and styles is on display in his exhibit at the Gallery....which by the way ends on July 2nd Thanks again to Minh for hosting us. The next photography exhibit will be in August and hopefully we will meet with he/she during the exhibit. Next week we are dark for the July 4th holiday weekend.
