“When I have a camera in my hand, I know no fear.” Alfred Eisenstaedt Before I launch into today's meeting, I posted a list of all (or most) of the photography topics we've covered since 2010 when I started writing about our meetings. Before 2010 we posted on a website we could not recover the data. If you click the "about" tab you will see a new page with the 2010-2016 topics. The list is a bit of a "wow" and we should all be proud of our first ten years. Congrats to all who have made it possible. Enough self praise...on to both last weeks meeting with Kevin and todays meeting. Last week 11-12-16 Kevin led the group... Kevin shared a group of 20 large color prints that he produced in a photographic darkroom, using materials no longer available. Many of the photographs were made in the last decade, when he made several necessary trips to the Midwest and East Coast with camera in hand. He spoke about his thought processes and the stories behind the photographs. Below are several examples from his presentation Reminder: “Walking Highland Park to San Pedro” Artist Talk by Cidne & Kevin Hass Angels Gate Cultural Center December 3, 2016, 1pm Kevin will send additional details Today's meeting 11-19-16 we had one of our fearless f8'ers, Joe loudermilk who took his camera to the air last week as part of a ceremonial fly-over by some vintage Air Force planes. Below are several examples of his high flying work. To compliment Joe's work in the air John presented some new images he shot in infrared of old planes on the ground in an airplane graveyard. Below are two examples of his work Rene noted a website that showed the 100 most influential photographs of the last 100 years...published in Time Magazine...see link below
100photos.time.com The rest of the meeting was taken up by discussions of our f8 schedule for 2017; agreement for 4 projects next year and our f8 10th anniversary field trip to Santa Fe.

VOTE! Today was an open session and we filled our 90 minutes with a litany of subjects we discussed and some visual doo dah as well. Mark showed several pictues from his last trip up north...unfortunately, no visuals to share in this post Jim is going to present at PasadenaPhotographyarts "Open Show" (Thursday, November 10th, 7:00PM, Jackie Robinson Center, Pasadena) ...below is one of his pictures from his presentation "New Substrates" Charley sent a link to panoramic photos taken from a drone. The pictures were on the website of Air Pano. Their web address: www.airpano.com. Below is an example Bill recently photographed "clouds" here in LA....specifically a collaboration by The Industry and the LA Phil at Disney Hall...called "Nimbus"...a sound and visual production. These "clouds" are hanging in Disney Hall and worth the trip to see. Finally, we discussed...or began to discuss...the concepts of "abstraction" in photography...but we decided to hold off official discuss until after the new year and involve Howard.
We did begin to explore ideas for our 10th year in 2017...more later |
