Today, Chris discussed his recent workshop experience with Alan Ross and his “unsharp masking” technique that he pioneered. Check out Ross’ website link below. https://www.alanrossphotography.com Chris also discussed the legacy of Ansel Adam's production assistants through the years and viewed an inspirational video by John Sexton in regard to the value of making photographic prints. Print Your Legacy | John Sexton The discussion moved on to “Visualization” and Chris’s recent successes and failures. Visualization is a central topic in Ansel Adams' writings about photography, where he defines it as "the ability to anticipate a finished image before making the exposure".[2] The term previsualization has been attributed to Minor White who divided visualization into previsualization, referring to visualization while studying the subject; and postvisualization, referring to remembering the visualized image at printing time. However, White himself said that he learned the idea, which he called a "psychological concept" from Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. Below are two links to discussions of visualization ..one by Alan Ross Rick Keller / Process of Visualization Alan Ross / Process of Visualization Chris also showed and was professing the use of a simple black cardboard frame to help facilitate our photographic seeing…visualization when we’re out shooting Lastly, Chris showed some recent work he printed using his new found techniques of Ross' workshop on masking
