Today' discussion was largely taken up with f8 logistics but we did touch a couple areas of photography interest We noted the continuing change in the camera moving it into a future where the shape of cameras morphs into all shapes and sizes, the innards become modular and the lens is replaced by a sensor only...not there yet but I suspect by 2022 the lens will begin to disappear We discussed the journal Aperture and its conversion of all 230 issues to digital. Bill talked about his review of Aperture #1 (January 1952) and articles by Minor White and Nancy Newhall. Minor White had a long essay on the Exploratory Camera...the use of the miniature camera..35 mm He explored every aspect of a photographers task...the development phase; printing phase, the display phase and finally the seeing phase. Nancy Newhall (and White) discussed the associated narrative including...title, caption and narrative...the mutual relationship between words /photographs. The comments of both White and Newhall are cogent even in today's world of photography...ignoring the analog comments of production. Aperture is now at #230...it has evolved from a narrative mag to visual and now has come back to the narrative side. You get the digital version (extra $$) when you subscribe to hard copy.
