Titles & Captions Greg Moore visits f8 Pasadena Salon Today, Rod Williams brought his friend and photographer Greg Williams to f8. Greg's talent as a photographer is only surpassed by his clever ability to title his images. Greg talked about the need to identify images with titles...giving them a part of the "soul" of the photographer. But first the difference between titles and captions. Title - A shorthand reference for the item. A human readable name which can be text or numeric, may be the file name, but doesn't have to be. It is not the same as headline. Caption - Is Description which is basically the description, including caption, of the items content. Below is Greg's brief bio... Gregory L. Moore is a retired public school educator who has served throughout the Greater Los Angeles County for nearly 30 years. Mr. Moore has been a student of photography since his teen years. He considers himself a student because he is constantly gaining more knowledge. He now works as a freelance photographer traveling throughout the country, and serving all client needs. Below are Greg's comments on titling his work "A photographer's bag usually contains many tools dedicated to capturing a special moment in time. That soulful moment can be further enhanced by giving your photograph a name. A photograph is abundantly layered with emotions, and possibilities, requiring the artist to join realities of the moment with their own feelings. This describes my approach to the naming of my photographs. Naming the photograph is the final step in capturing that special moment in time... So, feel it. Capture it. Name it!" Below are some examples of Greg'si mage titling skills Check out Greg's website: gmoore40.zenfolio.com. After the presentation there were more questions to explore at a later date...
Does every picture need a title? Do some pictures speak for themselves? ...and others I just can't remember Good meeting today....Thanks Greg

I attend a performance of Mussorgsky's " Pictures at an Exhibition" this afternoon. the concept of using a series of paints by the composer to arrange sound around the colors and impressions of each the paintings struck me that a day before I was viewing a set of pictures which in many instances found their colors and impressions by way of music, especially jazz. Thank you, Greg Moore, for the sights and sounds you brought to us with your photography. A straight ahead righteous set.
