Jennifer Vaughn (center picture above), the COO of the Pasadena-based Planetary Society (TPS), conducted a wonderful tour of the famous facility covering a broad range of topics from past planetary missions that have carried small TPS-provided payloads to forward research the Society is conducting on using mylar sheets for solar sailing with tiny payloads. The sails are pushed by the force of the sun’s photons of light on the sail material. Jennifer also described the history of TPS since its founding in 1980 by Carl Sagan, Bruce Murray, and Louis Freidman. The tour was followed by Charley discussing the solar system bodies he considers the most interesting, ranging from Mars to Saturn’s Titan to Neptune’s Triton. Charley, for those that don't know, is on the Advisory Council of the Planetary society...his bio from their website is below: "Charles Kohlhase is a planetary mission designer, author, artist, teacher, environmentalist, and public outreach specialist. In his five-decade JPL career, he led the mission design and navigation activities for robotic missions to most of the planets, including the epic Voyager Grand Tour and the international Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn and Titan, receiving four NASA special achievement medals, including the Distinguished Service Medal. He produces fine art for galleries, participates in many joint art and science educational projects, and consults for NASA/JPL on future missions in 2020 and beyond."
