Today we had a “guest” from the City of Detroit….our own f8 member Steve Lewis. Steve gave a presentation entitled “Detroit Matters” outlining both the current state of the city and the role he is playing in helping to revitalize the urban enivironment. Much of what Steve is doing involves connecting with the community at the same time solidifying plans for urban renewal. From Steve’s point of view, the community input is the critical key for a successful outcome. His goal and others in the planning process is to make the “new” Detroit a place for all and sustainable into the future. Noe of what he and his urban planning colleagues are doing is small. Detroit urban renewal is bigger than Manhattan, Boston and San Francisco combined! All this will require infusion of business money, infrastructure renewal saving what is left of the “old” Detroit while modernizing everything around it. Steve is one of several leaders directing the planning in three separate areas of the city. Needless to say, we are all proud of Steve and his work in Detroit and hope he will come back to f8 Pasadena periodically and share his life in Detroit and hopefully his pictures of the emerging city with us. What else we did today...
We chatted briefly about our trip in April to Santa Fe…details after 1/1 Rene mentioned our f8 Pasadena Salon Gallery at Jones and he will fill in details after 1/1…it appears we will be able to show our work in the side room at Jones. Today was our first time in Debrah’s studio, Good Citizen Media, in South Pasadena. Her studio will be our new home for 2017 and hopefully beyond. Thank you Debrah and Bill (her partner) for your generous offer to share your studio on Saturday mornings. Remember, parking is for 2 hours on Mission and longer on the side streets. Our 2017 schedule is posted under the tab "About"
